- - - - - - Rhyming Pie This a list of words arranged by their pronunciation All words ending with the same sounds are listed together - i.e. a backwards phonetic word list. The proof of the pie is in the tasting - when you're desperate to find a rhyme for a word and, after wracking your brains find you are still stuck then this list will help. So, for instance, if you search for the word 'butcher' you'll find nearby the word 'misadventure' - because it rhymes. How to use: After downloading, double click to open the pdf Use 'advanced search' - Ctrl Shift F or Edit --> Search Select 'Whole words only' Type in your word, press Enter Look up and down the column where your word is highlighted there may be several pages of suitable matches or just a few ---- Download Rhyming Pie Dictionary [...right click, Save Target as...] *** Further Considerations: 1/ Take, for example, the word 'use' - it can be pronounced so that it rhymes with 'ooze' or so that it rhymes with 'juice' the search window should list both of these choices so that you can select the one you need. If there's any ambiguity just search for another word that rhymes with your first choice, eg 'cruise' or 'fuse' or 'mews' 2/ The words are all from the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary and thus, like most dictionaries, do not include plurals and some parts of speech. So, if you're looking for a rhyme for 'yews' search for 'yew' and add the 's' afterwards and then secondly search for a non-plural eg 'snooze' Similarly, if you're looking for a rhyme for 'taping' search for 'tape' and add the 'ing' to the results yourself.
