Swimming Pool

It was a main road
but nobody had a car

quiet, with a post office
and a track you'd walk up to Colindale

On the corner
a mass of trees

Don't go over the woods, they'd say
there's an old swimming pool

a boy fell in
cracked his head and died

How about not falling in
I'd say

I'm missing you
I wish I had

when I first started to walk around this lake
it felt like I was the only one
Nowadays everyone does it
Maybe I'm a trendsetter

For the last 8 years
I've sat on a bench
writing
It's only me
I've checked

In 22 years' time
please, will someone
have a look
