Can't stand this jangly stomach
so I pace down to the lake
and then up the other side to the shop
A quick chat distracts my thoughts
Someone once told me
I should spend my whole life that way
invent pointless tasks
stay active –
just like everyone else
I don't pretend I've got a better suggestion
God these nerves in my guts won't let me settle

simple things, like a clear night,
a million stars, a bandage of milky way,
a nearly-full moon low in the sky
in the brochure it says it sleeps 4
just so they can charge more
but there is a spare room
which we never used
until our last night
