Moments

Pastels on thick paper with words on top

The finest conserve of sugared apricots

In a bowl, spring water,
its surface touched to still the waves

Everyone's Different Today

No one looks identical
       in the sun
       in the piazza
       outside the new library
where the breeze blows in from the sea
              and the herring gulls

We never see a police car during winter
       or the rain
but they're here now
       parked
watching the girls

I was fascinated for some time
and honoured
to witness the birth of a new world

Some say it is glamour
that as clouds condense
and sun clears the haze
the day-old landscape suggests hope
