I wanted to talk time travel
but you flipped to sci-fi
as if I had no heart
as if it wasn't real

I wanted to talk guts and eyes
not tired opposites
I wanted to tell you everything
but maybe I've done something wrong
I wanted to remember when I was psychic

Tesco's Beer and Crackers

I needed beer and crackers
so I went to the supermarket
– one can, own-brand, plain-label bitter
and reduced-to-clear water biscuits –
The other shoppers looked at me
like I was letting the side down
or making a statement
or seeking pity
but they had armsful of junk
price-hiked trash wheeled out to exploit the season
I walked home
crucified

I remember when I was wrapped in the fantasy of family
and how we'd carry the dream outdoors
– a long time ago
but they still export their madness
interpret data for each other
hierarchically
